Placenta encapsulation is a postpartum option that originates from specific cultural practices. It is not a standard or universally used postpartum intervention, but rather a personal choice some families make during the recovery period after birth.

The placenta is the organ that supported your baby throughout pregnancy. For clients who opt in, the placenta is prepared after birth using a traditional encapsulation process that includes dehydration, grinding, and encapsulation. Each placenta is processed individually and handled according to established safety and hygiene standards.

People who choose placenta encapsulation often do so as part of a holistic approach to postpartum care, with the intention of supporting energy, restoration, and emotional balance during a tender and demanding season. This practice is not presented as a medical intervention or guarantee of specific outcomes.

This service is provided by a midwife or other staff member and offered as an optional, client-directed support. We provide clear guidance on placenta storage, transport, and use, and ensure clients have the information needed to decide whether this service aligns with their postpartum goals.

Placenta encapsulation services are available to clients birthing at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital.

Rates for encapsulation begin at $275 for capsules and cord keepsake. Add-ons are optional, including prints, tinctures and salves. This service is offered to both clients and non-clients alike. Offering pick-up in Durham only for an additional fee.
